WILD LANDS INSTITUTE

Research, observation, and ecological intelligence for the work of stewardship.

Wild Lands Institute is the research and publishing practice behind Wild Lands. It is where we step outside the boundaries of a client project to ask larger questions about how landscapes change, how conservation decisions perform in practice, and what new evidence should change the way we work.

Good stewardship depends on more than good intentions. It requires close observation, current science, attention to history and local knowledge, and a willingness to revise our assumptions when outcomes do not match the story we expected. The Institute exists to make that habit of inquiry visible—and useful.

WILD LANDS INTELLIGENCE

Current evidence, interpreted.

A continuously updated global scan of ecology, conservation, restoration, climate, water, working lands, cities, methods, governance and human dimensions. Each assessment separates what the evidence says from why it matters and what remains uncertain, with direct access to the underlying source.

HOW WE PUBLISH

We are interested in work that changes understanding, complicates a familiar narrative, improves a method, or helps explain why an intervention worked—or failed. We prioritize original evidence, make uncertainty visible, and distinguish evidence from interpretation.

The Institute is Wild Lands’ research and publishing practice. Consulting and client services are provided through Wild Lands Ecological Services.
